Welcome! I was sharing with a client of mine, right before I sat down to write this to all of you, about who I am, what I'm about, and what my vision is for all of us. Just expressing it to her filled me with wonder, hope, and a deep sense of what truly is possible. The birth of this site is a full expression of who I am and who I have been all of my life. It just took me awhile to realize that it has been a work in progress for that long.
From as early as I can remember, I have been a person who wanted to bring forth a message of hope, joy, and possibility into the lives of people. One of my earliest recollections has me standing on the street corner in my neighborhood singing and dancing for the onlookers. People looked so delighted that it just encouraged me to sing some more. I LIKED being an instrument of joy. I wouldn’t have worded it that way at age 5, but that is what I was doing - spreading joy.
The singing continued throughout my life and as I reflect back, I realize that even the songs I would choose to sing would be a message of hope and possibility. And that isn't the only place that my heart seemed to sing the same song. As a retreat and conference speaker, my talks would move in that direction. Stories I would write, curriculum I would develop, workshops I developed all seemed to lean the same way. I opened a small school for kids who weren’t making it in the regular school system and called it "Greater Heights". The name itself exudes that there is always hope and possibility. It just needs to be tapped, fed, and grown.
People used to kid me all the time and tell me that I should hang a shingle outside my house that echoed the words of the Statue of Liberty because people needing encouragement always seemed to find their way to me.
So, I guess I've been a coach all of my life. I can remember feeling guilty in my youth because I seemed to have an uncanny ability to read where people were and help them move beyond that. Then I found out that I have the gift of exhortation. Being able to read people is one of its characteristics. I began to hone that skill, appreciate that gift and use it fully in my teaching, speaking, and coaching.
I have a vision - that people would experience a renewed sense of wholeness in their lives which is based in true wisdom, centered hope, childlike possibility, and deep joy. The Christian Coaching Institute is home for people who are interested in growing these things in their own life and in the lives of others.
So explore here for awhile and join us as we pull together to gently turn the tide of cynicism into a tide of renewed hope!!
